Real Madrid had too much firepower for Getafe, coasting to a 4-1 La Liga victory at the Bernabeu on Saturday.
Real Madrid 4-1 Getafe
Benzema scores early brace
Bale adds a third on 35 minutes
Ronaldo makes it 4-0 moments later
Alexis pulls one back in the second half
It didn't take the hosts long to open their account, Karim Benzema scoring his first on four minutes before adding a second 12 minutes later.
Ronaldo and Gareth Bale combined to make it 3-0 in the 35th minute before the Portuguese star effectively made sure of the victory three minutes later.
Real took their foot off the pedal in the second half, allowing Alexis to pull one back in the 70th minute, but the result was never in question.
All four of Los Blancos' goals came in the first half, effectively killing the game off as a contest inside the first 40 minutes.
It took only four minutes for the home side to take the lead, Pepe putting in the cross for Karim Benzema, who volleyed in from close range.
Cristiano Ronaldo then had an opportunity to double the lead five minutes later, but his powerful free kick was tipped over by Vicente Guaita.
There wouldn't be too many more missed shots from that point on, however. Benzema scored his second in the 15th minute after he was afforded too much space inside the penalty area. Medhi Lacen tried to intervene, but the forward had time to finish in the bottom corner.
There were half-chances for Damian Suarez and Pablo Sarabia as Getafe tried to get back in the game, but Real were back on the attack in the 35th minute, Ronaldo flicking the ball on for Bale, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
And it went from bad to worse for the visitors three minutes later, as Ronaldo produced a burst of speed to get past Roberto Lago before slicing his shot past Guaita.
The home side nearly added a fifth right after the break as Benzema went in search of his hat-trick, but his header from a failed clearance was wide of the target.
With the victory secure, Real took their foot off the pedal, and Getafe managed to pull one back on 70 minutes, Alexis rising high in the box to head home Pedro Leon's cross.
Getafe did their best to snatch another goal, while Real had a chance or two as well in the closing minutes, but it finished 4-1 as Rafael Benítez' side moved up to second.
