Chinese club Shandong Luneng have confirmed the appointment of Felix Magath as their new head coach.
The AFC Champions League quarter-finalists released a statement confirming the appointment on Thursday.
“Shandong Luneng Football Club has announced the hiring of Felix Magath as the new coach, effective immediately,” read the statement.
Outgoing coach Mana Menezes has failed to live up to the club’s standards in the Chinese Super League, where they have won just two from 11 matches and are wallowing in the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Magath has enjoyed success with Bayern Munich, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles before going on to VfL Wolfsburg, where he guided them to glory in 2009.
“I am looking forward to the job, my new club and the staff and players,” the 62-year-old German told the official AFC website.
“I am very interested in the great awakening of Chinese football and I am delighted at the prospect of the upcoming task.”
