Baggies striker Rickie Lambert is hoping he can do enough in pre-season to secure his place in the squad for the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

The former Liverpool forward played 19 times in the league for West Brom last season, starting just five games and scoring a solitary goal.

He was kept out of the side by Saido Berahino and Salomon Rondon, who made more than 30 Premier League appearances each for the Baggies, and Lambert even admitted in the second half of the season that he didn't feel he was good enough to make it into the first team.

The attacker is planning to return for pre-season fully fit and ready to give his all in order to earn his place back.

"I hope to remain with West Brom," he told Sky Sports HQ. "I'll be going to pre-season and then see what happens.

"My objective is to help West Brom, that's what I want to do, but it didn't happen for me last season.

"I'll have to see what happens when I get back and then go from there. My main thought in my head is to come back in the best shape possible."

However, he did concede that if was unsuccessful in forcing his way back into the first team, he would be forced to consider his options.

"I'd love to contribute to West Brom, but if not, then I'd have to make a decision and maybe go somewhere else."
