Lyon have rewarded head coach Bruno Genesio for saving their season by handing him a new three-year contract extension, the Ligue 1 club has announced.
Genesio began the season as assistant coach to Hubert Fournier but was given the job on a caretaker basis until the end of the season after Fournier was sacked in December last year.
At the time, the club was languishing disappointingly around mid-table, but under the tutelage of Genesio they were able to get back on track in the second half of the campaign to finish second in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain.
"We are satisfied with the relationship we have with him and with the results obtained," Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told a press conference.
Genesio was delighted with the confidence the club's hierachy has shown in him with the contract extension and is determined to get on getting the squad ready for next season.
"This is a gesture of recognition from the club and it rewards the work done by the staff and the players," The 49-year-old said. "I did my job as well as possible and got results, but there is a new season that is now going to come around."
