Newly-promoted English Premier League side Middlesborough are reportedly keen on signing German midfielder Lukas Rupp from relegated Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.
Aitor Karanka will oversee a summer transfer window in order to strengthen his side to retain their Premiership status in what will be one of the most competitive seasons to date.
German publication Bild has claimed that the English side have opened transfer negotiations with the 25-year old advanced playmaker.
It is generally thought that Steve Gibson will not want to break the wage structure at the club, despite pledging to throw money at the squad and ‘have a real go’ – so the transfer strategy of picking up bargains from around Europe will be key for Karanka over the next two months.
Despite being relegated from the Bundesliga Rupp impressed in his central midfield role, registering six goals and as many assists in 32 games this season.
