Ferdinand concerned about Depay exclusion

Rio Ferdinand believes Memphis Depay's absence from the matchday squad during their 2-1 FA Cup Final triumph over Crystal Palace is an ominous sign.

The much-maligned Dutch forward has not enjoyed the best debut campaign for the Red Devils since his big-money move from Eredivisie giants PSV Eidhoven, and was not even named on the bench during Saturday's fixture.

Despite receiving much fanfare upon his £25 million transfer, the 22-year-old has only contributed two goals and one assist in the league and his lavish 'playboy' lifestyle has often been criticised by British media.

"You [would have] thought they would just get him on the bus to get here, just to have the experience to come here and see what it's like," Ferdinand told BT Sport after the game.

"It's a great occasion. Next season he's going to want to be here and want to be part of it. This doesn't send out a positive message at all.

"For the future, it doesn't seem right."
