Veteran striker Claudio Pizarro has signed a one-year extension with Werder Bremen to keep him at the Bundesliga club for next season.
Bremen narrowly escaped relegation this season and have rewarded the 37-year-old for helping them survive with his 14 league goals in 28 games.
The Peru international has enjoyed regular game time in his third spell at the Weserstadion and remains their all-time leading goal-scorer with 103 goals.
“I’m feeling very good and I am happy to be able to play for this special club for one more season,” Pizarro told the club’s TV channel.
“It was a difficult but also really great year for me. I hope that we can have a better season next year, for the fans and for the whole city. I want to give my all for that.”
Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin added: “We are very happy that Claudio, as a leading player in the squad and with all his experience and unique goal-scoring ability, will be a part of the team next season.”
