Atletico Madrid's star forward Antoine Griezmann confirmed that his representatives are still in the process of negotiating improved contract terms with the club.
The prolific goalscorer's current contract with Diego Simeone's team ends in 2020, but it is expected that new terms would not only extend this date but also include a pay raise for the player and increase the value of the release clause.
"I’m fine at Atletico," Griezmann told Canal . "I’m close to renewing my contract. We’re on the right path."
The commencement of the negotiations were revealed by the 25-year-old on Spanish radio in February and it appears both parties are comfortable with the process.
When asked about a potential move to Atletico's cross-city rivals, the player made it clear where his loyatly lies.
"If Zidane calls me I will say that I'm at Atletico," Griezmann said. "Zidane is a great person, but I'm here."
Atletico may have fallen short in their chase for the Primera Division title, but still have a chance at lifting a trophy this season when they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Milan on 28 May.
Griezmann could also potentially get his hands on international-level silverware. He will no doubt be one of France's most potent weapons in their quest for the European Chmpionship kicking off in June.
"I hope I can finish the season by winning the Champions League and then the European Championship. That’d make me very happy," he added.
