Kim: We can beat Qatar

Hong Kong head coach Kim Pan-gon is confident that his side can beat Qatar in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Qatar have won all five matches in which the two teams have met, but Kim remains upbeat about his side's chances, especially after they were able to hold China to a 0-0 draw in their last World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Kim asserted that Qatar struggle when they are under pressure, which he feels was evident during their match against Maldives in June when they had to wait until the 99th minute to score the game-winning goal.

Furthermore, Kim believes that playing on home soil at Mong Kok Stadium will provide Hong Kong with an added incentive to triumph.

"Times have changed and the environment has changed," Kim told South China Morning Post. "Qatar struggled in their away match against Maldives with victory only coming after a late goal in stoppage time.

"We are a united side and the team spirit is high. With the fans behind us, it is possible we can win the match and collect all three points."
