Referees banned after trying to officiate while drunk

The headline pretty much says it all. The Czech Football Association has banned two football referees who tried to officiate while intoxicated.

Incredibly, the incident took place in the top flight of Czechoslovakian football, with fourth official Marek Pilny and assistant referee Jiri Jech stumbling around the pitch drunk while FK Pribram were playing Slavia Prague.

The duo are set to lose their refereeing licenses and face further disciplinary action after this shambolic effort:

A statement from the Czech FA read: “Pilny was visibly drunk from the beginning of the game.

“He struggled for balance by the touchline, he fell, at times he ran with the linesman copying his movements.

“After 10 minutes he had to be guarded by a bodyguard, and at half-time Pilny left for the changing rooms and never came back.”

As for Jech, the statement notes that he “allegedly urinated during the game”.

Czech FA boss Miroslav Pelta said the duo’s careers were over: “They don’t exist for us any more.”
