Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Switzerland international midfielder Granit Xhaka from VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The 23-year-old is thought to be Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s top transfer target, and is said to be close to sealing a switch to the Emirates stadium after a fee of around £34m plus add-ons was agreed by the two clubs in question.
The defence-minded midfielder will give Wenger more options on the middle of the park, with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini heading for the Emirates exit.
Xhaka has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Mönchengladbach this season, scoring three times and providing one assist.
Wenger is hoping to wrap up the signing ahead of Euro 2016, when Xhaka will play a key role for Switzerland as they look to book their place in the knockout phase in a group containing hosts France, Romania and Albania.
