Kompany confirms Euro 2016 absence

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has confirmed he will miss Euro 2016 with the groin injury he sustained against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The 30-year-old lasted just 10 minutes before being substituted, and is now facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines in what has been an injury-hit campaign for the centre-back.

In a statement posted on his facebook page, Kompany revealed he would be Belgium's "most fervent supporter" in their quest for glory in France.

"I trust my friends and team-mates to do well and do us proud at the next European Championships in France," the statement read.

"I am now officially their most fervent supporter and I will be there to support them."

On his latest injury setback, Kompany added: "I could fear for my career, as others may do. I could give up. That is not me. I decide on my future."

Kompany has made just 22 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens this season, bagging two goals in the process.
