Watzke: Dembele wants Dortmund move

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke claims highly-rated Rennes youngster Ousmane Dembele has his heart set on a move to Signal Iduna Park in the off-season.

The 18-year-old, who has already broken into the France Under-21 side, is a transfer target for a whole host of clubs in Europe’s top leagues after a breakout season at Rennes.

The likes of FC Bayern München and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the forward, but the player is only interested in joining Dortmund, if Watzke is to be believed.

“Dembele himself is keen to join Dortmund,” Watzke told Schwatzgelb. “But we would have to find an agreement with Rennes first to make it happen and there is no agreement with them yet.”

He added: “He is a hugely talented player, but he is still only 18 and obviously not the Messiah.

“I have seen what has been written and said about him. He has already been compared to a number of superstars, but let’s be careful with such statements.”

To date, Dembele has made 24 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, scoring 12 goals in the process.
