Football mourns Patrick Ekeng

Football is mourning Cameroon international Patrick Ekeng, who died on Friday night after collapsing during a match for Dinamo Bucharest.

The 26-year-old had been brought on as a 62nd-minute substitute and was reportedly on the field for just seven minutes before he collapsed.

He was rushed to hospital and received CPR for over an hour and an half but the doctors were unable to revive him.

Dinamo Bucharest sent their condolences to his family and friends.

“Dinamo tonight lost footballer Claude Patrick Ekeng Ekeng forever,” said the Romainian club.

“On behalf of all of Dinamo, sincere condolences to the bereaved family. God rest his soul.”

Ekeng spent last season at Spanish side Cordoba, who also paid tribute to the football.

“There are no words to express our pain and sadness for Patrick Ekeng,” Cordoba said in a statement on their official web page.

“We are devastated by this loss. We will never forget you dear friend.”

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin and Man United’s Anthony Martial both paid tribute to Ekeng on Twitter shortly after the news broke.
