Leverkusen slumped to their second defeat in a row with a 1-0 loss the newly-promoted Darmstadt. An early goal from defender Aytaç Sulu, scored in the 8th minute, was enough to win it for Die Lilien.
Hertha Berlin packed all the action into the first half for their 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart. Japanese forward Genki Haraguchi put the Berlin side in the lead after 14 minutes. Bosnian defender Toni Sunjic then equalised for Stuttgart but Fabian Lustenberger restored Hertha’s lead just before the break.
VfL Wolfsburg had to settle for a draw against FC Ingolstadt. The newly-promoted side managed to keep last season’s runners-up at bay at Audi-Sportpark to earn a valuable point.
Frankfurt steamrolled 1. FC Köln 6-2 with Alexander Meier scoring a hattrick and Luc Castaignos getting a brace. Haris Seferovic also struck for Frankfurt with Anthony Modeste and Dominique Heintz scoring for Köln.
