Becamex Binh Duong head coach Nguyen Thanh Son has expressed his disappointment with his side’s early exit from the AFC Champions League, but believes their experiences will make them better placed to hit greater heights in the future.
The Vietnam outfit completed their 2016 AFC Champions League campaign with a 2-1 defeat to FC Tokyo, a result which means that Becamex finish the group stage with just four points from six games.
Nguyen was left to rue what might have been after his side were unable to take their chances against FC Tokyo in sweltering conditions at the Binh Duong Stadium, with Ryoichi Maeda’s brace the difference between the two sides.
“It was a real pity that Le Cong Vinh hit the post and the crossbar rather than scoring,” said Nguyen.
“Tokyo didn’t play so well because of the hot weather and I think we deserved to draw the game, but that’s football.”
Brushing off the frustration of failing to shine on the continent’s biggest stage, Nguyen already has one on next season’s competition.
“We have improved a lot this season,” he asserted, “so I believe that we will be even better next year.”
