Buriram United head coach Alexandre Gama has apologised to the club’s fans after his side’s elimination from the AFC Champions League.
The Thailand outfit ended their group stage adventure with a 0-0 draw against Shandong Luneng, a result which halted a run of five consecutive defeats, and stands as the club’s only point of their continental campaign.
Buriram had entered the competition with high hopes, and Gama conceded they had simply not been good enough, but asserted that they would learn from their mistakes.
“My players fought for 90 minutes although we didn’t play too well which makes me unhappy,” he said.
“I tell my players every day that we have to play very hard so that we can come back to the AFC Champions League next year and also defend our Thai League championship.
With the sides sharing the points, Shandong Luneng were able to sneak into second place on the Group F standings, joining FC Seoul in the knockout stage.
