Cocu: We tried everything

PSV Eindhoven boss Phillip Cocu feels his team tried everything possible to record a big win over relegated Cambuur on Sunday.

Cocu's side needed to improve their goal difference in order to propel themselves to the top of the Eredivisie with first placed Ajax leading the standings by six goals – but they only managed to win 6-2 while their title rivals beat FC Twente 4-0.

"The team did everything within its powers today. Cambuur's second goal was a big moment. I think we would have won by a bigger margin had we not conceded that," he said after the game. "We will keep fighting for our last chance."

The former Netherlands international midfielder admitted he was pleased with his sides efforts on the day as they attacked from the starting whistle but concedes that going into the last round of fixtures de Rood-witten will simply focus on winning their fixture against PEC Zwolle in hope that Ajax will slip up when they travel to De Graafschap.

"Our goal was to win and to score as many goals as possible. We had analysed Cambuur before the game and knew we could hurt them from set-pieces. We tried to do that as much as possible.

"I think things would have panned out differently had we managed to score the 4-1 before the interval. But we conceded the 3-2 instead. It was not easy to recover from that goal," the 45-year-old added.

"We have to win our own game and that will not be easy. We will have to wait and see what happens elsewhere, but we will keep fighting for our last chance so long as the final whistle has not gone."
