Guardiola shifts focus to Atletico

FC Bayern München manager Pep Guardiola has set his sights on Atletico Madrid after his side failed to clinch the Bundesliga title on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Thomas Muller put Bayern in front in the sixth minute before Andre Hahn scored the equaliser in the 72nd minute to delay Bayern’s hopes of lifting the Bundesliga trophy for at least another week.

The Bavarians will be back in action on Tuesday as they face Atletico in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash.

The Spanish outfit have a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg at the Allianz Arena, but Guardiola is confident his side can beat Atletico and book their spot in the final of the Champions League.

“Gladbach are a very good team,” Guardiola told reporters. “They play very good football so they deserve a big compliment.

“Of course we wanted to win today and we started the game well, but we still need a point for the title and now is the time to focus on Atletico Madrid.

“Tuesday’s game is going to be totally different and of course we’re going to have to play better then.”

Meanwhile, Muller made it clear that anything but a victory over Atletico on Tuesday will be considered a failure.

“We’re going to have to be on fire on Tuesday,” Muller said.
