Ayestaran targets more of the same

Valencia coach Pako Ayestaran has urged his players to remain focused on the task at hand as they prepare to face Getafe in the Primera Division on Sunday.

Los Che have seemingly turned the corner under the stewardship of Ayestaran, recording three consecutive victories to life themselves into the top half of the league standings.

And they will get the chance to move up to eighth place, above Las Palmas, when they lock horns with relegation-threatened Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in Madrid.

"We must finish as high as possible," Ayestaran said at his pre-match press conference. "We're aware that we can become part of Valencia's history and our objective remains the same.

"If we could move up to eighth, great, and if we can finish seventh, great.

"We have to do our homework and keep picking up points. We want to confirm the good feelings of the team. The past doesn't exist.

"Sometimes we remember how rewarding [the past is], but we're living in the present.

"I enjoyed watching us move the ball in our last training session. You can have a stumble, but you can often avoid it with the work we're doing.

"[Winning] is becoming a habit that will be hard to stop. [Seventh] depends on [Sunday]. We're doing well and focusing on the present was the reason for having transformed the boos into high spirits and discouragement into hope.

"It's the result of our daily conduct, and we want this to become a habit."
