FC Bayern München boss Pep Guardiola has admitted defender Serdar Tasci has given him food for thought after producing a standout performance in the 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has been forced to bide his time on the sidelines after joining the reigning Bundesliga champions on loan from Spartak Moscow at the start of February.
He made his second appearances of the season on Saturday and gave Guardiola a timely reminder of his quality, after recently expressing his dissatisfaction at a lack of first-team minutes.
“Serdar Tasci showed me how unfair I was to him,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by Bild.
“It’s crazy how he played. It’s hard when you haven’t played a minute for the last two months.
“He’s a great personality, it’s a huge compliment to Serdar. He will really help us in this period of the season.”
With first-choice defender Jerome Boateng being eased back into action after recently returning from injury, Tasci could well be handed the chance to stake his claim for a regular starting berth when Bayern face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
