PSV Eindhoven have completed a controversial signing of young Ajax defender Damian van Bruggen.
The 20-year old signed a two-year deal with their Eredivisie rivals on Tuesday afternoon with the contract having a further 12-month extension option.
Van Bruggen admitted he left Ajax because the ambitions of PSV appealed to him and felt his career would progress more at the current Eredivisie champions.
“I have chosen for PSV because I believe in their plans. I’ve made some progress in my career but I can still learn a lot in training and by playing in the Jupiler League,” he told the club’s official website.
“I hope to play in the Philips Stadion within eighteen months.”
The Netherlands youth international revealed it was an easy decision as his family supported the move, despite the fear of a backlash from Ajax supporters.
“They are also pleased with my new deal, which has made it easy for me to make a choice for PSV,” Van Bruggen added.
