Wednesday’s AFC Champions League West Zone wrap

There were wins for Lekhwiya, Al-Ittihad FC and Zobahan in Wednesday’s AFC Champions League West Zone action.

Bunyodkor (Uzbekistan) 0-2 Lekhwiya (Qatar)

Lekhwiya kept their last 16 hopes alive in Group B with a 2-0 away victory over Bunyodkor.

The Qatari side had to wait until the 65th minute before taking the lead through captain Karim Boudiaf’s first-time effort, while Mohammed Muntari all but made sure of the points in the 79th minute, latching onto Yousef Msakni’s pass before firing past the goalkeeper.

The win sees Lekhwiya in second place on eight points, while Bunyodkor’s qualification hopes were effectively snuffed out as they remain rooted at the bottom of the table on two points.

Zob Ahan 3-0 Al-Nasr

Zobahan (Iran) 3-0 Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia)

Zobahan remain top of Group B after dispatching Al-Nassr 3-0 on Wednesday evening.

Ehsan Pahlevan gave the home side the lead on 27 minutes, while Kaveh Rezaei and Ehsan Pahlevan added two more after the break.

The Iranians look on course for a last 16 place but the defeat for Al Nasr means they are definitely out of the running.

Al Nasr 1-1 Lokomotiv

Al Nasr (UAE) 1-1 Lokomotiv (Uzbekistan)

In a battle between the two teams leading Group A, Lokomotiv held on to their one-point advantage over Al Nasr after earning a 1-1 draw away from home.

Jires Kembo-Ekoko gave the home side the lead in the 31st minute courtesy of a superb solo effort, but Temurkhuja Abdukholikov’s header on the stroke of half-time ensured the spoils were shared.

The draw seed Lokomotiv move to nine points, one point ahead of Al Nasr and three points clear of Al-Ittihad FC.

Al-Ittihad FC 4-0 Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan

Al-Ittihad FC (Saudi Arabia) 4-0 Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan (Iran)

Former eight-time Saudi champions Al-Ittihad thumped Sepahan 4-0 at the Prince Abdullah al-Faisal Stadium.

The first goal only arrived on the stroke of half-time via the boot of Abdulrahman Al Ghamdi, before Fahad Al Maolad, Gelmin Rivas and Al Ghamdi added three more in the final 10 minutes, turning a potential victory into a total rout.

Despite the victory, the Saudi side remain in third place in Group A, while Sepahan are rooted at the bottom of the table.
