Van Gaal: Martial is doing great

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has lavished praise on striker Anthony Martial following his match-winning performance against Southampton on Sunday.

Martial, who joined United for £36 million in the recent transfer window, scored twice as the Red Devils came from a goal down to a secure a 3-2 victory.

"I have to say he is doing great," Van Gaal told reporters. "He has the talent for it. When you are 19 years old, you cannot expect any consistency. Mostly, they shall have a lot of dips. That's not a big problem.

"He has talent at a high level and has adapted to the system. He shows that he wants to do that. As a striker, the most important thing is to score goals."

Martial has already made a superb start to his United career as he has scored three goals in two Premier League appearances, and Van Gaal believes that the 19-year-old will only get better.

"He can improve, I think," Van Gaal said. "He has a high level of talent and he shows it under great pressure, and that may be his greatest talent."
