It all appears to be going horribly wrong for Barcelona at the business end of the season, but defender Gerard Pique remains confident that his side can win their third consecutive La Liga title.
Barcelona, who crashed out of the Champions League in midweek at the hands of Atletico Madrid, suffered their third straight La Liga defeat on Sunday when they were beaten 2-1 by Valencia, and they have now not won in the league since they thrashed Getafe 6-0 on March 12.
The Catalan outfit’s woe is compounded by the fact that Atletico’s 3-0 win over Granada saw Diego Simeone’s side draw level with Barca at the top of the league standings.
Despite this, Pique’s confidence has not been shaken.
“We see ourselves as capable to win five out of five and we will need to do that,” Pique told reporters. “Many things go through your head and it’s difficult to see the stars cross in this way. The latest developments are a great reflection but you can’t stop.
“The team is the same as two or three weeks ago. Psychologically we are well, and the sensations are different to the other defeats. It’s in our hands, and we will keep going forward.
“We have exhausted our margin of error. But I’d prefer to play like this [against Valencia] and lose than to have won in the past few days. I am convinced we are going to take it [the league title].”
3 – Barcelona have lost three consecutive games in La Liga for the first time since February 2003. Fall.
