Dortmund CEO: Pressure is on Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has questioned reports suggesting the German outfit is under more pressure than Liverpool ahead of Thursday night’s decisive Europa League clash.

Having played to a 1-1 draw with the Merseyside outfit at Signal Iduna Park in the first leg, many have suggested that Liverpool have the edge going into the second leg at Anfield.

However, Watzke has rejected that notion, claiming Dortmund are under less pressure due to the fact they have already secured their place in next season’s Champions League campaign by virtue of their lofty position in the Bundesliga standings.

“It’s killing me when I read that we are under more pressure after the first leg,” Watzke told reporters.

“For them [Liverpool] the Europa League is the last chance to qualify for Champions League by winning the final.

“We, on the other side, have been qualified for it for weeks.”

Dortmund are a massive 19 points clear of third-placed Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga, while Liverpool currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table, nine points behind fourth-placed Manchester City albeit with a game in hand.
