Wednesday’s AFC Cup West Zone wrap

There were wins for Al Orouba of Oman and Bahrain’s Al Muharraq in Wednesday’s Group C and D action in the 2016 AFC Cup West Zone.

Air Force Club (Iraq) 1-0 Al Wahda (Syria)

Iraq’s Air Force Club now enjoy a five-point lead at the top of Group C after beating Al Wahda 1-0.

The decisive goal came from Hammadi Ahmed in first-half stoppage time, a glancing header into the net after the free kick came flying in from the left.

The Iraqis now have nine points from four matches at the top, while Al Wahda lie bottom of the table with three points from three.


Al Dharia vs Al Orouba

Al Dharia (Palestine) 2-0 Al Orouba (Oman)

Al Dharia of Palestine moved into second place in Group C, level on points with Al Arouba with a game in hand, after beating the Oman side 2-0.

The club are still alive in the quest to qualify for the next round after goals from Abd Morjan in the fourth minute and Mohammed Fouda midway through the second half.

Al Jaish Al Muharraq

Al Jaish (Syria) 0-2 Al Muharraq (Bahrain)

Al Muharraq maintained their perfect record in Group D as they claimed a 2-0 victory over Al Jaish.

Ismaeel Abdulatif opened the scoring 11 minutes before the break, and Shohruh Gadoev doubled their lead two minutes after the restart.

The result sees Al Muharraq make sure of their place in knockout phase of the Cup, while Al Jaish remain in third place on three points from three games.

Fanja (Oman) 3-3 Ahli Al Khalil (Palestine)

Fanja SC of Oman secured their first point of this year’s campaign as they played to an eventful 3-3 draw at home against Palestine’s Ahli Al Khalil.

Ahmed Wridat gave the visitors the lead before Fanja drew level 11 minutes later through a header from Abdulrahman Al Ghassani.

The home side took the lead on 33 minutes as Al Ghassani slotted his second, but it was all square again right after half-time when Mahmoud Wadi scored with another header for Ahli Al Khalil.

The visitors then claimed the lead just after the hour mark as Wridat notched up his second, but with four minutes remaining substitute Jarlisson Pereira lifted the ball over the defence for Imad Al Hosni, who controlled the ball on his chest before finding the target to snatch a draw for Fanja.

The point they earned allowed Ahli Al Khalil to move into second place on four points in Group D.
