Al Hilal will be without defender Digao for both legs of their AFC Champions League semi-final clash against Al Ahli due to a two-game suspension.
The AFC informed Al Hilal on Monday morning that they had decided to suspend the 27-year-old Brazilian for his challenge on Lekhwiya forward Youssef Msakni in the second leg of their quarter-final.
Video footage showed Digao kicking Msakni in stoppage time, but the referee did not see the incident and as such retrospective action was taken.
Head coach Giorgos Donis expressed his frustration with the decision, but admitted that he had been braced for the worse.
"We expected this from the AFC because they don’t like us and as you can see they waited until one day before the game to suspend the player but we were prepared and I knew he wasn’t going to play this match," he told reporters. "The timing is definitely unprofessional from the AFC but we’ve made contingency plans."
