Two unanswered second half goals from 1. FSV Mainz 05 helped them to a thrilling 4-2 win over FC Augsburg at the Coface Arena in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Francisco Caiuby gave the visitors the lead with a well-taken effort in just the ninth minute of the match, but the lead didn’t last long as Christian Clemens levelled for Mainz just four minutes later.
The home side then took the lead through Pablo De Blasis 10 minutes later before Ja-Cheol Koo brought Augsburg level five minutes before half time as the back and forth encounter continued to gather pace.
Mainz were by far the better side in the second half and De Blasis completed his brace in the 53rd minute and Clemens added his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to hand the homes side a 4-2 win.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Darmstadt and Stuttgart played out to a 2-2 draw at Merck Stadion am Bollenfalltor.
Sandro Wagner gave Darmstadt the lead in the 26th minute before two goals on the stroke of half time from Christian Gentner and Lukas Rupp meant the visitors would take the lead into the break.
However, Peter Niemeyer scored six minutes after half time to rescue an important point for the hosts.
In other Bundesliga results, Goals from Cleber (61′), Ivo Ilicevic (73′) and Nicolai Muller (75′) gave Hamburger SV a 3-0 win over Hannover 96 at the HDI Arena, while FC Ingolstadt 04 beat FC Schalke 04 by the same scoreline courtesy of goals from Moritz Hartmann (29′), Lukas Hinterseer (45+2′) and Dario Lezcano (65′).
