‘Maybe fans boo me because of Moyes’

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini says he has often wondered if the club’s fans boo him because he was one of David Moyes’ signings.

The Belgian international was Moyes’ first major signing after the former Everton boss took over the Old Trafford hot-seat from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

Moyes, though, was sacked in 2014 after Champions League qualification became impossible, leaving Fellaini’s place in the squad under scrutiny.

Even though the 28-year-old has made 58 Premier League appearances since then, his displays have often been the target of criticism, something which he tries not to affect him too much.

“My family care more than me,” Fellaini told the Telegraph.

“I am a professional, so I have to deal with it. I try not to listen. Sometimes it is difficult, but that is football and playing for a big club. Sometimes I don’t understand it. Why me? I don’t know.

“Sometimes, I say yes it is because I joined with David Moyes, sometimes I say no. The truth is I don’t know. I know one thing, a lot of people know I work hard on the pitch and for me that’s the most important thing.”

Louis van Gaal’s men currently sixth in the Premier League table and take on Fellaini’s former club at Old Trafford on Sunday.
