Former Aston Villa winger Paul Merson has launched a scathing attack on Aston Villa after their shambolic season has left them on the brink of relegation.
Merson believes the poor management of the club and timing of the Remi Garde sacking has left one of the founding memebers of the Premier League doomed.
"I don't know what has happened at Villa, it's a bit of a joke to be honest," Merson told SkySports. They had a two-week break and then sack the manager three days before the next game, very strange.
"He should have gone ages ago. He should have gone after the transfer window when they didn't sign anybody, but he stayed and they haven't got any better."
With seven games left in the Premier League season Villa have only managed to pick up 16 points and currently trail Norwich City in 17th place by 12 points.
