Schaaf to leave if Hannover drop

Hannover 96 manager Thomas Schaaf is set to part ways with the club in the event of their seemingly inevitable relegation at the end of the season.

Schaaf only joined Die Roten in December, but four consecutive defeats in their latest Bundesliga outings have left them 10 points clear at the bottom of the standings, and Schaaf won’t be sticking around when they make the drop.

“Both parties are of the belief that a new face in the coaching position is the best solution,” said Martin Bader, the club’s managing director.

Schaaf, who is best known for his time with Werder Bremen as a manager and a player, agreed that his departure is the best way forward.

“We have always discussed all possibilities openly and professionally and I am also of the opinion that this is the right solution,” the coach added.

Hannover return to Bundesliga action on Saturday when they host Hamburger SV at HDI-Arena.
