Dutch FA president Michael van Praag confirmed the Amsterdam Arena could be renamed after Johan Cruyff in honour of the influence the Dutch legend had on football history.
Cruyff, who is widely considered as one of the greatest footballers and managers in the history of football, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday.
“I can’t wait for the moment when we rename our stadium the Johan Cruyff Arena,” Van Praag said during a media conference. “Its the best tribute we can pay him.”
Van Praag and former Manchester United goallkeeper and current Ajax managing director Edwin Van der Sar are said to be considering the options of paying tribute to his legacy.
“Right now our thoughts are with his wife, children and grandchildren,” he said. “We will discuss soon how we will best honour Johan.”
