Schalke defender Sascha Riether admits he wants to stay at the club beyond the current Bundesliga campaign.

The veteran right-back has been used sparingly for Die Knappen this season since joining from Freiburg, but has impressed when called upon and cited his comfort at the club for his desire to extend his stay.

“It’s surely quite clear to see that I feel very comfortable here. I like the club. I always want to help the team, both on and off the pitch,” the former Wolfsburg defender told the club’s official website.

“Even when I’m not playing I can be very important for the team, and when I do play, I’ve always done my job well so far. The fans have acknowledged this as well.

“My contract expires at the end of the season. There haven’t been any concrete talks with the management yet.

“It’s certainly no secret that I would like to continue being there for the team and could very easily see myself staying at Schalke.”
