Domenech: City cannot qualify against Paris

Former France national team manager Raymond Domenech does not believe Manchester City have the quality to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The sides were drawn together for the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition after City beat Dinamo Kiev and PSG triumphed over Chelsea in midweek.

Domenech believes all of the Premier League club’s most dangerous players are out injured, while those they do have available, such as Yaya Toure, are past their best.

“Those who could do something are injured – Aguero is not at his best,” he told Le Parisien. “Yaya Toure? Before he was a box-to-box midfielder, now he’s a centre-circle-to-centre-circle midfielder.”

It is the first time the Citizens have made it this far in the Champions League and, while he believes the two-leg encounter will be an exciting affair, Domenech completely wrote off City’s chances of winning.

“This is the best draw, especially from a psychological standpoint,” he said. “It’s a great name, glitzy, a beautiful tie, but when you see the results and the performances, there is no comparison. Manchester City cannot qualify against Paris, not even in their dreams,” he concluded.
