Match Summary

The match between Bayern and Köln promised a lot in the early exchanges, especially after Lewandowski grabbed the lead for his side in just the 10th minute.

However, the game did not follow through on that potential at all as the chances dried up and neither side looked like adding to the scoreline, and the visitors ran out 1-0 winners to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to eight points.

Bayern burst out of the blocks against Köln and were rewarded for their early pressure when Lewandowski grabbed the lead in the 10th minute.

The Poland international reacted quickest to a rebound in the home side’s box and smashed the ball in off the far post with a magnificent strike to put the visitors ahead.

Unfortunately for everyone watching the game, that was more or less the most exciting moment of the match as there was a combined total of five shots on target from the two sides.

Douglas Costa did go close in the 23rd minute with a long-range free-kick, but it flew wide of the right post.

Bayern looked the stronger of the two sides throughout with their typical passing game, but Köln did a good job of cancelling it out with some tough tackling and fast counter-attacks.

The home side were much better after the break and Leonardo Bittencourt picked up a wicked throughball in the 50th minute to get behind the Bavarians defensive line, but he was denied by the ever-alert Manuel Neuer.

In the 75th minute, Bittencourt hit a delightful cross for Anthony Modeste, who hit a powerful shot towards goal, but Neuer’s services weren’t required this time as Joshua Kimmich got across to get a block in.

Bayern did have another chance late on when Lewandowski slid a wonderful pass in for Kingsley Coman but the Frenchman blazed his strike over the crossbar as the match ended in a 1-0 victory for the Bundesliga leaders.
