Wednesday’s AFC Cup West Zone wrap

There were wins for Al Wahda, Ahli Al Khalil and Al Muharraq in Wednesday’s AFC Cup West Zone action.

Al Wahda (Syria) 5-2 Air Force Club (Iraq)

Iraq’s Air Force Club were on the receiving end of a 5-2 thrashing at Al Wahda of Syria.

Raja Rafe scored an incredible four goals for his side – two in the first half and two more in the second – while Osama Omari added a fifth.

Hammadi Ahmed scored twice in the second half for Air Force Club, but the hosts were already leading 4-0 when he got Air Force Club on the board.

The victory sees Al Wahda earn its first points of the campaign to lie in third place in Group C, while Air Force Club still lead the group on six points despite the heavy defeat.

Ahli Al Khalil (Palestine) 2-1 Fanja (Oman)

Mahmoud Wadi bagged a brace as Palestine’s Ahli Al Khalil beat Fanja of Oman 2-1 in Group D.

Wadi put the Palestinians ahead on 23 minutes before doubling their advantage 25 minutes from time.

Abdulaziz Al Maqbali claimed a consolation for Fanja in stoppage time, but it came too late for the visitors.

Ahli Al Khalil now lie in third place in the group on three points, while Fanja are still searching for their first point after three matches.

Al Orouba (Oman) 1-1 Al Dharia (Palestine)

Palestine’s Al Dharia earned the first point of their 2016 campaign with a 1-1 draw at Al Orouba in Oman.

Abdalhalim Morjan gave the visitors a surprise 1-0 lead just after the half-hour mark, but Moatasem Al Shibli came to the hosts’ rescue midway through the second half.

Al Orouba lie in second place in Group C on four points, while Al Dharia still lie at the foot of the group.

Al Muharraq (Bahrain) 1-0 Al Jaish (Syria)

Ismaeel Abdulatif’s 29th-minute effort gave Bahrain’s Al Muharraq their third win from three matches in this year’s campaign, a 1-0 result over Al Jaish of Syria.

The victory moves them six points clear at the top of Group D, while Al Jaish lie in second place on three points, having played one game less than Muharraq and Oman’s Al Orouba.
