JSW Bengaluru FC of India defeated Myanmar side Ayeyawady United 1-0 in their Group H match of the AFC Cup played at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon on Wednesday.
In the group standings, Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia are on top with six points followed by Lao Toyota, Ayeyawady United and JSW all on three points.
In a very even first half, Sunil Chhetri managed to open the scoring for the visitors in the 34th minute.
Udanta Singh squared the ball for Chhetri, who mishit his shot, but it still somehow bounced past goalkeeper Vanal Hruai to make the score 1-0.
In the second half, Ayeyawady threw everything into attack but could not get past some resolute defending by JSW.
The visitors should have put the game to bed 10 minutes from time when Singh was played through with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he was wide with his attempt.
The miss did not prove costly, however, as JSW hung on for the valuable victory – their first of this year’s campaign.
