Impressive Seoul win again

FC Seoul triumphed 4-1 over Shandong Luneng FC on Wednesday in a vital Group F AFC Champions League match played at Luneng Big Stadium in Jinan.

The K-League outfit now have nine points from three games and are favourites to finish the group in pole position. They have scored 14 goals and only conceded two thus far in their campaign.

As for the Chinese Super League side, they are still relatively well placed to advance to the next phase of the competition as they occupy second spot with six points.

After 28 minutes, uncapped Brazilian forward Adriano put the visitors in front.

There were no other goals scored in the first-half as Choi Yong-soo’s men went into the break with a slender 1-0 advantage. Shandong coach Mano Menezes would have expected a big reaction in the second 45 minutes from the likes of Diego Tardelli and Jucilei, as both players are in good form, having already found the back of the net in this year’s competition. And that is exactly what Menezes got as the 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder leveled matters for Shandong after 62 minutes. However, frustratingly for the home crowd, the hard work was undone almost immediately as just six minutes later Seoul found themselves in front by two goals courtesy of a 65th minute strike from Yo Han Go.

The blitz continued as Adriano scored his second of the evening after 71 minutes.

Amazingly, this was his ninth AFC Champions League goal this season. He bagged four against Buriram in his side’s opening match and then netted three against Hiroshima.

If he continues in this vain of form he might well follow in the foot steps of his namesake who played 48 times for Brazil and scored 27 goals.

With the desired outcome secured, FC Seoul sat back, held onto possession and closed the game out in clinical fashion.

The two sides will play each other again next month in round four of the AFC Champions League.
