Hong Kong’s Kitchee were left to rue their missed chances as they played out to a 0-0 draw with New Radiant in Tuesday’s Group F AFC Cup clash.
Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating the better chances, home side Kitchee were not able to trouble the scorers.
Forwards Christian Annan and Rufino Segovia both had good chances to open Kitchee’s account, but New Radiant goalkeeper Sulemana Abu was equal to the task throughout the match.
Annan had a great chance on 14 minutes after beating two defenders on the left side, but his shot was just wide of the target.
Five minutes later, Segovia had time and space to shoot on the edge of the area, but his effort was a disappointing one.
Kitchee midfielder Huang Yang looked to have scored with a well-placed header from Lam Ka Wei’s corner, but Abu denied him with a diving save.
New Radiant came out firing the second half and could have taken the lead when Ahmed Suhail chipped the defence and found Niyaz Ahmed, but the Maldives side’s captain flashed wide.
Kitchee would soon gain the upper hand again, but were unable to find the opening they needed, second half substitute Cheng Chin Lung coming closest when he fired a powerful shot into the crossbar.
Abu also continued to excel for the visitors, making two crucial saves as the clock winded down.
The result leaves Kitchee on four points from three games, in third place in Group F, while New Radiant are bottom with two points.
