Kaya FC beat Balestier Khalsa FC 1-0 in the AFC Cup at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila on Tuesday.
The hard-fought win sees the side from the Philliphines go top of Group F with six points, while Balestier slip to second with four points.
Chances came in abundance in the first half for Kaya, who seemed desperate to be in front at the half-time break.
However, resolute defending from the Singaporean side prevented this from happening as they blocked chances from Jovan Bedic, Kenshiro Daniels, Alfred Osei, and OJ Porteria.
Three minutes into the second half, Kaya found the breakthrough though as another Bedic effort fell perfectly to Antonio Ugarte, who was able to spin and pound the ball into the bottom corner.
The goal opened up the match as the visitors pursued an equaliser.
Kaya keeper Matthew Acton saved well on several occasions.
Ugarte and Porteria both missed good chances to double Kaya’s lead but it was not to be.
The Kaya defence held strong in the closing stages of the match and they took home all three points.
What a great day for PH Football!
