Iraq scored an equaliser deep into stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw with Vietnam in their 2018 World Cup qualifier in Hanoi on Thursday.
The late goal keeps Iraq in second place in Group F after three games, one point ahead of Vietnam and two behind leaders Thailand.
The visitors found themselves trailing after 25 minutes when Nguyen Trong Hoang powered up the right flank and delivered a superb through ball for an unmarked Cong Vinh, who coolly slotted the ball past Iraq goalkeeper Noor Sabri.
Despite being behind on the scoreboard, Iraq enjoyed the better of the possession and territory for most of the game, peppering the Vietnam goal with regularity, and only a series of excellent saves from goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh ensured the home side maintained their lead.
Vietnam looked to have done enough to secure all three points, but there was disappointment for the home fans when Iraq captain Younis Mahmoud was brought down in the box in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Mahmoud got up and made no mistake from the penalty spot, securing the valuable draw for his side.
