A late own goal saw Espanyol earn a point with a 1-1 draw against 10-man Granada at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes on Monday.
- Granada 1 Espanyol 1
- Barral sent off
- Rochina opens the scoring
- Lopes with an own goal
Granada had the lead at halftime when Ruben Rochina found the bottom corner, despite the earlier dismissal of David Barral for a second yellow card.
The visitors looked to make their numerical advantage count in the second half, but needed an own goal from Miguel Lopes to see the scores level in the closing stages.
Granada winger David Barral was walking a tightrope since picking up his first yellow card in just the fifth minute, and was sent off just before the half-hour mark when he saw his second yellow of the night, giving his team over an hour to play with just 10 men.
Espanyol almost pounced in the wake of Barral’s dismissal when Oscar Duarte got his head to Marco Asensio’s cross, but he saw his header saved by Andrés Fernández.
Despite their reduced number, the hosts took the lead five minutes before half-time when former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Ruben Rochina slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
Granada pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, and they had their reward through a bit of luck in the 82nd minute when Portuguese defender Lopes found his own net.
