Kaya FC midfielder OJ Porteria has said that his side must show what they are capable of when they host their first-ever AFC Cup match on home soil against New Radiant SC on Tuesday.
Porteria admitted that his side will be under pressure to perform as they were beaten 1-0 by Hong Kong-based outfit Kitchee in their maiden AFC Cup match on February 23.
The midfielder is mindful that defeating New Radiant will be no easy feat after the Maldives side held Balestier Khalsa FC to a 2-2 draw in their AFC Cup opener.
“I have confidence in our team, in our coaching staff, and our management,” he told reporters. “We need to prove ourselves.
“We’re very confident, but we also have respect for each and everyone in our group. There’s no game in the AFC that will be easy for us, so we will approach it like every other game. Just like [we did with] Kitchee, we will approach New Radiant and Balestier [the same way] as well.”
Meanwhile, New Radiant coach Yordan Stoykov believes that Kaya will be favourites heading into the match even though this will only be their second AFC Cup match ever.
“I’m thinking that Kaya is the best team in the group,” Stoykov said. “We have to show our best efforts to resist them and to achieve the acceptable result.”
Kaya are currently at the bottom of the Group F standings with no points, while New Radiant are in third place with one point.
