Bayern München captain Philipp Lahm is confident the Bavarians hold the all the aces in the race for the Bundesliga title this season.
Bayern and second-placed BVB Dortmund played out to a 0-0 draw over the weekend, meaning the defending champions preserved their five-point gap at the top of the table.
Lahm believes his side created better chances than Dortmund and could have won the match, but was nonetheless pleased with the result as it put FCB in the driver’s seat to claim their fourth consecutive Bundesliga title.
“We have maintained our five-point gap at the top of the table,” the skipper said after the match. “There are still nine games to play. It’s a long way to go, but it’s in our hands.
“We had the better openings and we were dominant in the second half. We had some great chances, such as when Douglas Costa was clean through on Roman Burki, but Dortmund have been on a great run of form and it wasn’t easy to shake them off.
“It was very intense and a great game for the fans. It was a fair result and the match could have been 2-2. That’s what happens when two top teams meet.”
Bayern’s next assignment is a home match against Bremen on Saturday before they face Juventus in the crucial second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie next Wednesday, while Dortmund take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League on Thursday before resuming Bundesliga duties against Mainz on Sunday.
