Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that Premier League leaders Leicester City will be feeling the most pressure as the season nears its end.
Leicester currently hold on to a five-point lead with just nine games left in the 2015/16 campaign, while City are 10 points behind in fourth place with a game in hand.
However, with Leicester searching for their maiden Premier League title, Pellegrini feels that their inexperience will cause them to slip up.
“For every team, whether they have experience of a title run-in or not, there is a lot of pressure in the last part of the season,” Pellegrini told reporters.
“Maybe if you are not used to being involved then the pressure is a little bit more, but normally the last five games are very difficult for all the teams because it doesn’t matter if you play good or bad you just have to win the games – so nerves are important.”
Pellegrini had called on his side to focus on each one of their remaining games and do whatever it takes to claim the three points they need to climb up the standings and catch up with Leicester.
However, the Chilean acknowledged that his side’s fate is to an extent out of their hands.
“I think it’s important not to think about how many games we need to win. It’s just important to try to win the next game,” he said. “From now until the end of the season, we must be focused on each game and try to win them.
“We need not only to win our games, but hope Leicester and Tottenham can lose some points.”
