Ajax kept pace with Eredivisie leaders PSV as they recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory over Willem II at Koning Willem II Stadion on Sunday.
The hosts managed to hold on until the 44th minute when Arek Milik gave Frank de Boer's side the lead and three goals in the space of 13 second-half minutes from Riechedly Bazoer (52'), Lasse Schone (60') and Davy Klaassen (65') sealed a fifth successive league win.
The Amsterdammers maintained the one-point gap to PSV at the top of the table, while the Tricolores are just three points clear of the relegation zone in 15th place.
Elsewhere, Christian Santos scored the only goal of the game two minutes from time as NEC boosted their European hopes with a 1-0 win over Heracles at the Goffertstadion.
Ernest Faber's team moved up to the seventh and final European spot, climbing above the ninth-placed Heraclieden in the process.
AZ kept their Champions League challenge alive with a 2-0 victory over strugglers Excelsior at the AFAS Stadion, both goals coming in the second half through Derrick Luckassen (57') and a Vincent Janssen penalty (77').
John van den Brom's side are only kept out of the top-three on goal difference in fourth, with the 16th-placed Kralingers still three points adrift of safety.
Meanwhile, Vitesse strengthened their own bid for European football after running out 2-1 victors against Roda JC at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion.
The visitors needed a stoppage-time goal from Zhang Yuning to seal the win, after Mike van Duinen (59') had cancelled out Isaiah Brown's 35th-minute opener for Rob Maas' men.
Vitas end the weekend in fifth spot on 40 points, while De Koempels are down in 14th place, six points clear of the bottom-three.
In the late game, Feyenoord moved up to third in the table courtesy of a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Cambuur at De Kuip.
Jens Toornstra gave the hosts the lead on 36 minutes, but Marcel Keizer's men hit back on 70 minutes through Martijn Barto to level matters.
However, Dirk Kuijt restored the Rotterdam outfit's lead nine minutes later before Eljero Elia sealed the three points five minutes from time, leaving SSC second from bottom and nine points adrift of safety.
