Bayern München captain Philipp Lahm believes that his side will only have themselves to blame if they fail to win the Bundesliga title this season.
Bayern were held to a goalless draw by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, but the Bavarians still hold a five-point lead with just nine games to go in the season.
After a shocking 2-1 loss to Mainz 05 on Wednesday, Lahm admitted that his side bounced back well and looked a lot more threatening despite failing to find the back of the net in Der Klassiker.
“We have maintained our five-point gap at the top of the table,” Lahm told reporters. “There are still nine games to play. It’s a long way to go, but it’s in our hands.
“We had the better openings and we were dominant in the second half. We had some great chances, such as when Douglas Costa was clean through on Roman Burki, but Dortmund have been on a great run of form and it wasn’t easy to shake them off.
“It was very intense and a great game for the fans. It was a fair result and the match could have been 2-2. That’s what happens when two top teams meet.”
Bayern’s next Bundesliga fixture is against Bremen, who are in 13th place on the standings, on March 12.
