Paris Saint-Germain head coach Laurent Blanc believes they hold the advantage in the Champions League because of their dominance of Ligue 1 this season.
The defending champions have been in imperious domestic form this season and have amassed an astonishing 22-point lead over second-place Monaco, despite suffering their first loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat by Olympique Lyon last weekend.
He believes this gives the club a big advantage because they do not have to constantly play their best side in league games so they can remain fresh and uninjured for the midweek Champions League fixtures.
“In the other leagues like in England, in order to speak about our opponents next week, I can tell you they are really focused on the championship – they will play with their best line-up,” he told Goal.
“Look at Bayern Munich and all the big teams in Europe. They all face some key games at some point in their respective leagues.
“They do not underestimate their league, not like we do in France. Only because it’s Paris and we are leading with lots of points at the top of the ranking table.
“I think that in France, the Champions League is much bigger now. We are looking for a club able to win it.
“Paris is one of them and now there is extra pressure around those Champions League games,” Blanc concluded.
