Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria has explained the special feeling he has for the number 11 shirt after making a flying start to life in France.
The Argentina international has impressed in Ligue 1 since making a big-money switch from Manchester United in the off-season, scoring twice and bagging three assists in six appearances.
And according to Di Maria, part of his rejuvenation stems from the fact he now sports his favourite number.
"It's important for me because it's the number I wore during the Beijing Olympics. We won the gold medal and I scored in the final," Di Maria told PSGTV.
"It's a number that brings me luck and I hope that will continue to be the case in the future.
"Lots of excellent players have worn the number 11 in the history of football, so getting the chance to wear it myself is awesome.
"Given what happened at the Olympics, this number gives me a lot of confidence."
He added: "I came very close to signing for Paris Saint-Germain a year ago, and that time I checked online and saw that the number 11 was still available.
"The transfer didn't end up going through at that time. But I signed this year, and the number 11 was still available.
"It was kind of my destiny and I'm very happy to wear this number."
